Vacation Values

Today’s post is about Family Values.

For Progressives, Family Values are not about hating LGBT people or running over a homeless person with your Hummer on your way to church.

Progressive Family Values are people mattering more than profits, about the earth being our home and not our trash can, and how we need good government for both of those.

This past week, I took my family to a Wisconsin tourist area for a day trip. The area we went to had these choices:

Column A: Big bold brassy noisy things
Column B: Nature

Our children get their values from their parents. When we encourage our children to delight in nature and to enjoy the simple pleasure of watching a crane bob its head or an eagle nesting atop a fir tree or the beautiful rock formations left by the earth’s movements millions of years ago, we encourage them to want to care for our earth and to not feed consumerism.

It can’t get any simpler than that.
