New Moon … Fresh Starts

The new moon is when there is no reflective light from the sun thereby rendering her invisible to the naked eye.

New moon energy and the energy from the darkness can give birth to new initiatives and fresh starts.

We are left with our own thoughts without distractions and in quiet solitude. We can reach deep within, find our center and lay out our plans for the next phase of our life.

The October new moon is even more significant as it comes in advance of the pagan new year, Samhain, at the end of the month. The ending of the past year, the birth of the new year … and new moon energy to help us reflect inward, clear our mind and start anew.

The Dark of the Moon:

The dark of the Moon is the most powerful time psychically. It seems to lure us toward the deepest self, the longings of the soul, and restful listening is a great way to receive these messages. It’s been compared to the dormant seed under the winter snow, or the cocoon holding the butterfly. You might feel tired, or crave quiet solitude. It’s important to make space for the unfolding of the spirit at this time. Like death itself, it’s preparation for the new beginning that begins with the crescent.

I invite you to listen to music, listen to yourself, and listen to the earth.

Bright blessings!

Song to Inanna © 1986 Lisa Thiel

I am the daughter of the ancient mother
I am the child of the mother of the world
O Inanna, O Inanna, O Inanna
It is you who teaches us to die be reborn and rise again
die be reborn and rise again
die be reborn and rise.

  1. The new moon is a reminder that our daylight is rapidly disappearing as the year comes to an end. Life slows down and we enter the contemplative time. How will we emerge when the light returns?

  2. I enjoy your creative reflective writing. Thank you.

I am trying to allow the health challenge I am struggling with be a time of personal growth.. ….a contemplative time, indeed.

    • Sometimes we forget to take time for that reflection. It is why I try to keep track of the phases of the moon because if you key to them you allow yourself to be contemplative or energetic or whatever the phase suggests. Our moods wax and wane and it does us good to, quite literally, go with the flow.
