The warmth and comfort of the seasons

Yesterday was clearly not a day when warmth and comfort was the first thing to come to mind. The mid-morning temperature was 23 degrees, an end to the unseasonably warm temperatures (mid-40s) we had been experiencing.

But I was warmed up by a gift from the goddess: two flocks of sandhill cranes flying overhead on their migration south.

I was startled by the sounds and looked up to see what I thought was a flock of geese. The birds were large and there was a V-shape to their flying but the sound was unmistakeably not goose-like. It was the very distinctive sound of the sandhill cranes which I hear in the wetlands nearby.

The cranes have an interesting flying pattern. While there is a clear V, similar to geese, the V will collapse and spirals will form. The flock will keep moving (southward this time of year) but will appear at times to be spinning towards their destination rather than on a direct route.

Look up and look around. The seasons are warm and comforting because they are a never ending cycle spinning us towards our destinations. And the gifts of the goddess are for everyone willing to accept them. Free of charge.
